In the heart of the Costa Tropical, Salobrena is a beautiful Andalucian coastal “White Village” built on a dramatic rock outcropping between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mediterranean. In the 13th Century, the Caliphate whose capital was the Alhambra in Granada built a dramatic castle on the top of the Salobrena rock to use as its summer residence. The maze of narrow streets beneath the castle offer a charming introduction of Moorish Spain to the visitor. A five minute walk from the castle sits Casa Mediterranea, a kind of miniature Alhambra with an enchanting private inner courtyard with a dip pool, covered dining area and plantings, a patio off the main entrance with a grape arbor beneath a dramatic Persian Lilac tree, and an upper level terrace with a drink refrigerator and fine views of the town below, the Sierra Nevadas, and the Mediterranean. Casa Mediterranea was restored as a labor of love by its owners and is decorated and equipped to an extremely high standard to provide comfortable and spacious accommodation. The master suite has a queen size bed, air conditioning, a hydromassage bath, a separate shower, satellite TV and looks down on the inner patio and adjoins the upper terrace On a mid level terrace is a separate bedroom suite with two twin beds, a ceiling fan, large wardrobes, and a window with a pretty view. This suite has a large bathroom with shower and can be entered either from a separate entrance to the street or from the inner patio. The entryway has a small table, refrigerator, a toaster oven, and an electric kettle for morning coffee or tea. The salon/sitting room and American style kitchen, with a dramatic high wood beamed ceiling, lovely furnishings and artwork are accessed from the front patio and has additional sleeping accommodation on a queen size sofa bed in the salon / sitting room, and two folding camp beds on an open balcony above the kitchen area, reached by a ladder (not suitable for young children). Just off the kitchen is another full bathroom with shower for guests sleeping on the sofa bed or camp beds. With air conditioning in the master bedroom, Jacuzzi bath, fully equipped kitchen with five burner gas cooktop, oven, mircrowave, and refrigerator, with additional refrigerators on the top terrace and adjoining the inner courtyard, satellite TV, views to the sea and mountains, this house offers excellent facilities. As special service the holiday villa Casa Mediterranea offers free internet access via Wi Fi for your laptop. It is a short walk from many very good bars and restaurants and is a 15 minute walk to the beaches. The Chiringuito bars along the mile long beach offer a variety of fresh seafood and other refreshments and are exceptionally good value. It is an ideal location to relax and enjoy the activities that Andalucia has to offer. Please note that the streets of the old town of Salobrena are steep in places. There is history to be found everywhere, from just up the street to the Moorish Castle to the Alhambra Palace in Granada (just 50 minutes by car) to the Alpujarras region. The coastal towns of Almeria, Almunecar, Motril and Nerja are also well worth a visit. The city of Salobrena has a sports complex which has at least 4 tennis courts and a beautiful new indoor pool. The sports complex is probably a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute drive from the house.
